There are a host of negative articles about nearly every politician in the universe. Governor Barbour is no exception. However, he could be a card carrying member of the ACLU and a registered Democrat and the press would still call him a racist. Why? Because he is from Mississippi. No doubt, there are plenty of racist people in the South, Northeast, and every other corner of the globe. But to be honest, I can’t think of another southerner who is better suited to finally discuss Mississippi’s progress on race, than Governor Barbour. He clearly stated that he will discuss his record on race relations in Mississippi, and his presence as a Southern GOP governor will only create more dialogue about race relations in the South. Mississippi is one of the most friendly places to live in America — no matter what the color of your skin is. The South is the fastest growing region of the country. We must be doing something right. African American business leaders have already praised Barbour for his leadership. America will see that. Americans understand that the South is capable of producing a great president – it’s about time the press does too.
