Barbour’s biggest baggage is in fact, his biggest positive attribute. The press thinks people will vote up or down on Haley simply because he was a lobbyist. Don’t be so quick to simplyfy the minds of the public. Aren’t lobyists a part of our society? Aren’t they necessary for legislative actions? Will lobbyists still be here in two hundred years? The answer to those questions is – YES. Barbour will only use this to his advantage. It’s funny, because the press will waste needless ink on his past as a lobbyist all while at the same time, teeing up Haley’s argument as to why the lobbying background is an overwhelming plus. Lobbyists are a part of our country. It’s time the press understands that the public accepts the lobbying profession.
